The Jaguars & The Hellions

The Hellions

In the mid-sixties Dave Mason was a member of a couple of bands, namely The Jaguars and later The Hellions. Of course he would later go on to join Traffic and then have a solo career that is still going strong today.

Anyway, Mertsi stopped by the blog the other day and sent me these tracks. He was missing two, so thanks to John for filling in those blanks.

These nine songs are typical 1960's fare, nothing Earth shattering, but pleasant to listen to and historically important if you like Dave Mason.

The Jaguars - Opus to Spring/The Beat (1964)
The Hellions - Day Dreaming Of You/Shades of Blue (1964)
The Hellions - Tomorrow Never Comes/Dream Child (1965)
The Hellions - A Little Loving/Think It Over (1965)
The Hellions - Hallelujah/Shades of Blue (1966) (actually released as by The Revolution)

Shotgun Express - Singles

A guy by the name of Doc Rock dropped by the blog a while back and sent me the singles by Shotgun Express.

Now, who were Shotgun Express you might be asking yourself? Well, they were a band that contained Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green and Rod Stewart among others. Now before all the Peter Green fans get excited, he had already left the band by the time these singles were released, but our Mac related interest is because Mick Fleetwood was still the drummer of the band.

In 1966 they released their first single I Could Feel The Whole World Turn Around / Curtains and in 1967 the second single Funny Cos Neither Could I / Indian Thing. Apparently there was also an album released in France but no-one seems to know anything about it. These singles did get a release on an EP however.

I have seen a copy of "Little Miss Understood" floating around on the net credited as Rod Stewart w/Shotgun Express. A quick check of Wikipedia also suggests a song called "So Much To Say (So Little Time). If anyone knows a definitive answer on this then please let me know. Even better would be mp3s of these tracks featuring Shotgun Express! Well you can't blame me for asking!

Bits and Pieces - Lindsey Buckingham

I know, I know, I've been very neglectful of this blog, but I have been collecting a few things to add up on here, so lets start.

Back in June I received a request for these tracks from someone called Shawn who wanted the tracks below. I have to admit I was a bit slack and otherwise occupied and didn't chase them up. Back at the start of September I finally remembered to ask John for them, and he sent them to me, and here we are in October and I finally get around to posting them. Oh well at least I got there!

In 1973 Linsdsey Buckingham appears on a Lambert & Nuttycombe album called "As You Will". There is some disagreement about what tracks Lindsey appears on, apparently he plays banjo on "She's My Music" and apparently also appears on the track "Oh My Darling". Craig Nuttycombe has apparently suggested that the liner notes of the album that list Lindsey as being on the track are possibly a mis-print. So, we will never know... I've included both tracks here and you can make up your own mind.

In 1975 Lindsey guested on Baron Stewart's album "Bartering", and appeared on four tracks, "I'm No Stranger Than You" (guitar and backing vocals), Don't Drag It On (acoustic guitar), "After The Storm (Go Out Dancin') (guitar) and Time (backing vocals).

Don't get too excited about these tracks unless you are a big Lindsey Buckingham fan.

Bits and Pieces

Obviously you would realise by now that we are running out of things to add on to this blog that are hard to find. I'm still trying to chase down a couple of things, but obviously we are getting in to the completely obscure by this stage!

This post began because I received a message from a guy called "Ravenloft" who offered me a couple of obscure things that he had, and hence I'm offering them to you below. However, it did reignite my interest in an early band that Bob Welch featured in called the Seven Souls. Now this band did apparently release an album in France, and if anyone has a copy then I'd either really appreciate some mp3s or I know my friend John would love to buy it.

Ravenloft also sent me an obscure Christine McVie track, Can't Help Falling In Love from the 1986 soundtrack to a movie called A Fine Mess.

I also received an email from Mertsi who sent me an Mp3 of Jodrell Blues by Peter B's Looners which was the B-Side to a 1966 single If You Wanna Be Happy. Of course anyone knowing anything about the Peter B's will know that this single featured Peter Green. I already had the A-side to this, so have included that too.

Big thanks to both Ravenloft and Mertsi for contributing. I do appreciate everything and I know that all of the other Mac fans do too.

So, here we go:

Bob Welch/Seven Souls from Ravenloft and the B-Side I found on the net
1967 Single - I Still Love You/I'm No Stranger

Christine McVie also from Ravenloft
1986 Soundtrack to A Fine Mess - Can't Help Falling In Love

Peter B's Looners (featuring Peter Green) from Mertsi and myself
1966 Single - If You Wanna Be Happy/Jodrell Blues

Billy Burnette (something I picked up somewhere!)
From the Dressed In Black - Tribute to Johnny Cash Album - Ring of Fire

All contributions of obscure stuff are always appreciated. Just drop me a line and ask me if I already have it. Alternatively if you are seeking something Fleetwood Mac related that is out of print or hard to find I'll try to find it for you. Please don't ask for stuff that is commonly available as the name of the blog says it all.

Above all, support Fleetwood Mac, they are touring, I have my tickets to go and see them, so buy some and show them you care!

Also, while I'm here, Bekka Bramlett has a new album out, and you can buy it at
http://www.etrecordshop.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ETRS&Product_Code=11BRBE1&Category_Code=NR

Apparently the Dave Walker Band will have a new album coming out soon although I don't know when. I have stopped holding my breath for the new Bob Weston one that was due out at the end of '08, but it might arrive eventually.

Redcaps - Singles

A more recent pic of Dave

Before Dave Walker joined Savoy Brown and, of course, later Fleetwood Mac, he was in a Birmingham band called "The Redcaps". Now as you might know I don't like reinventing the wheel, so if you want to know more about them you should follow the further info link below.

I was talking to my friend John about these singles a few weeks ago, and he kindly forwarded them to me, so here they are!
