Bob Welch & Dave Mason - California Jam 2

When John sent me the Cal Jam 2 songs featuring in a previous post, he said that there was probably a bootleg of the entire set by both Dave Mason and Bob Welch floating around on the net.

While I don't normally do bootlegs, the curiosity got the better of me and I went looking. There is actually a six CD set of Cal Jam 2 that features Foreigner, Heart, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Santana and Mahogany Rush as well as our two Mac members. I read somewhere that there were only 300 CDs released (although I think it was probably a bootleg anyway).

Now if you want the entire Cal Jam 2 six CD set, then you can download it here:

http://orlandivicastro.blogspot.com/2009/04/california-jam-2-1978-320-kbps.html

If you don't care about Heart, Foreigner, etc then you can just download the DM & BW sets below.

Oh by the way, please don't blame me if "Danchiva" is titled "Dance of the Shebm" on Bob Welch's set. I didn't make the damn bootleg. I noticed on the track listing Dave's "Pearly Queen" was entitled "Dearly Queen" which I am pretty sure it isn't. :-) You might also notice that "So High (Rock Me Baby and Roll Me Away) is listed as "Rock The Baby" and "Let It Go, Let It Flow" is listed as "Let It Grow, Let It Flow". Personally I like the mis-titles they give a whole new meaning to Dave's songs. ;-)

I assume that the person that made the bootleg just listened to the tracks and guessed what the song titles were. You can obviously fix them up if you want. Like I said, I didn't create it...

Also please be aware that the sound quality isn't great. While it is a soundboard recording and therefore not bad, it is a bootleg of a live recording. Don't expect too much!

Fleetwood Mac - Another Link In The Chain - Live At Interlaken

Rules are meant to be broken, and I'm breaking another one of my unwritten rules again with this post.

I've said before that I don't generally collect bootlegs nor post them on here. I've made an exception in the past for the Lindsey Buckingham bootleg, so I thought since I have already broken my rules I may as well break them again.

As Fleetwood Mac fans should know after Lindsey, Stevie and Rick Vito had left Fleetwood Mac and Christine McVie had stopped touring, there came a weird combination of Mick, John, Billy Burnette, Dave Mason and Bekka Bramlett. This lineup was regarded by many as being a poor imitation of the Buckingham/Nicks era, and released the Time album in 1995.

There are many bootlegs of Fleetwood Mac out there, but this is one of the few that exist for the Time lineup. Personally I like it, but then I'm a big fan of both Billy Burnette and Bekka Bramlett (oh what a voice!). Although it was almost universally criticized, this formation of the band actually had talent and potential. It is just a pity it didn't really last very long...

Christine McVie contributed to the Time album but she no longer toured with the band, and hence is not featured on this bootleg. I'm not shedding any tears about that and neither should you. ;-)

Source: Sent to me by my friend Rhiya. No idea where she obtained it.
Bitrate: 128kbps
Further Info: None that I can find but it dates from 16th of December 1994 and was a concert shown on US television as "Another Link In The Chain". I'm assuming there is a bootleg DVD out there somewhere of this?

Dave Mason - Obscure Tracks Part II

In my last post I mentioned that I was seeking the tracks from the Skatetown USA soundtrack, and once again John has delievered the goods (what would we do without him). He also send a couple of other Dave Mason tracks from a 1978 album called "California Jam 2" which of course was a collection of songs from the music festival of the same name.

I've said it many times that Dave's songs all tend to sound the same (read this blog and see how many times I've said it), but the completist has to have these songs. Plus, I keep getting emails about how much people love him.

At least there are a couple of new Dave tracks here, "Skatetown USA" and "I Fell In Love". That is what I like to hear, music I haven't heard before. Of course Dave couldn't help himself and did a version of "Feelin' Alright" on this soundtrack too (although by comparison with other versions it isn't bad). I now have 10 version of this song.

The songs from Cal Jam 2 are of course just Dave doing live versions of his songs. I'd actually really like to hear Dave perform his songs in a different way occasionally. I'm a big Bob Dylan fan and you never know how he is going to sing a particular song. Some people complain that with Bob Dylan you are halfway into the song at a concert before you recognise it. There is pretty much no risk of that ever happening with Dave Mason.

Oh and I'll say this about Dave Mason. If you look at the picture above and also the picture on my previous post of Dave Mason Obscure Tracks, you'll notice he dresses pretty sharp for a guy who is almost pension age! This of course is a change from his scruffy look of his youth!

Dave Mason - Obscure Tracks

There are three Dave Mason tracks in this post, that are hard to find. The first two Feelin' Alright (Take 1) and Little Woman are taking from the Dave Mason Scrapbook . Scrapbook was released back in 1972 and is no longer commercially available. I don't have it, but I did get John to provide the two tracks that aren't available elsewhere. The rest of the songs on Scrapbook are commercially available on various Dave Mason and Traffic albums.

The next track Satin Red and Black Velvet Woman was released on a single back in 1970. As far as I know you can pick this track up on "Ultimate Collection" which is another compilation of Dave Mason. Yes we really needed another Dave Mason compilation.

Peter Green Splinter Group - Destiny Road Japanese Bonus Tracks

I had an anonymous request via the blog yesterday requesting "The Brave" and "Gambling Man" which were bonus tracks on the Japanese release of Destiny Road. Personally I object to the bonus tracks that the Japanese always seem to get. Sure, its great for them but what about the rest of us?

Now if you have the regular issue of the Destiny Road album you will know that there is a hidden track (Man of the World) at the end of track 12 . Because the Japanese album had 14 tracks, the hidden one is at the end of Track 14 (Gambling Man). I've left it on there for those of you who want it, and you can always edit the file if you choose to once you have downloaded it.

Of course if you don't have the original version of Destiny Road, then you should go out and buy it because it certainly is one of The Splinter Group's better albums.

So, courtesy of John here they are:

Jeremy Spencer (Levi Set) - Obscure Tracks

Given that I am running out of things to upload for you that fall into the category of Fleetwood Mac related and also hard to find, I have decided to upload a few individual mp3s for you.

I still have a couple of albums to chase down and upload but I'm really struggling to find something that I haven't posted already.

Anyway, these two tracks are by Jeremy Spencer's band "The Levi Set" before he joined Fleetwood Mac. The first is Who's Knocking and the other is Look Down At My Woman and date from early 1967.

They have appeared over the years on various compilation albums of British Blues or White Blues. My versions come from the album "White Boy Blues".

Lindsey Buckingham - Bootleg version of Gift of Screws

Now before I tell you about this album I'd like to point out that I don't generally post bootlegs on this blog. This will actually be the first time, but as you know, there is a first time for everything.

Back in the days before Fleetwood Mac released Say You Will, and before Lindsey did eventually release his solo album "Gift of Screws" there was this bootleg floating around cyberspace. There are many versions of this bootleg and this is just one of them.

Many of the songs on this bootleg were destined for Lindsey's solo album which eventually morphed into the FM album "Say You Will". There are a lot of Lindsey fans that will tell you these songs sound much better without the witchy wailing of Ms Nicks added to them.

I downloaded this album off a site some years ago, and promptly forgot about it. A few weeks back someone was asking for it on The Ledge, and I remembered that I had it stored on my computer and passed it along. Through further discussions with other members on the Ledge, other songs were provided by other Ledgies, and I eventually worked out that my version was missing two songs (that I had deleted when they wouldn't fit on a CD) and had to go and find them again.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've added those tracks on this upload. The first 22 tracks are as I found it, and I have added on Peacekeeper (provided by LukeA) and two My Little Demon versions (provided by Shackin'up).

As these were posted up on the Ledge only a short while ago, a lot of Ledgies coming here might already have this album. However, for those who don't here it is...

Oh, and hello to all of my fellow Ledgies who have popped in for a visit. Thanks to Ricohv for posting a link that has sent lots of visitors this way in the past few days.

The De Luxe Blues Band - Deluxe Blues Band (1988)

This post is very much an "oops we missed one" kind of post. Why? Because I have another De Luxe Blues Band album to offer you that I barely knew existed!

I received an email yesterday from my friend and regular contributor John informing me he had located a copy of the 1988 De Luxe Blues Band album, titled Deluxe Blues Band. He has forwarded these tracks to me so that I can add them onto to blog to share with you.

This album is obviously quite rare, although there are mentions of it around the net on various sites.

I mentioned to my wife today that John has contributed so much to this blog that I really need to consider him to be a co-author rather than a contributor. His help in compiling this blog and providing discography information has been invaluable.

I've only listened to this album a couple of times, so I'll hold off on giving you any comments. However, those of you who love DLBB, can download it here and make up your own mind. John said to me in an email "these sound the same as most of their other studio recordings". Not, as I'm sure you are aware, is this necessarily a bad thing as DLBB albums are almost always enjoyable

Todd Sharp - Who Am I

A week or so ago I received an email from a guy called Chris who was chasing up Todd Sharp's 1986 solo album "Who Am I". This wasn't an album that I had in my collection although I probably should have. The reason I should have owned it is that it features Christine McVie and Billy Burnette on backing vocals and additionally it appears to be out of print.

Somewhere in the recesses of my mind I knew I had seen a link for this album on the Ledge (where a section of the obsessed Fleetwood Mac community hang out). I went searching and sure enough it had been uploaded by Matt (Street Dreamer) some time ago. We have poached a couple of his links for this blog before, so Matt, thank you!

The other item of note with regards to this album is that it contains Todd's version of "I'm the One" which appears on Christine's solo album from 1984. He has also co-written a few songs with Christine and Billy Burnette for their solo albums, and has appeared on albums by Mick Fleetwood and Bob Welch as well. They may as well have made him an honorary FM member.

There are lots of people rave about this album but it is fair to say if it had been a classic it wouldn't be so hard to find. As far as I know it has never made it to CD release. Having said that, it is in a similar vein to the Billy Burnette albums from the same period. It wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination to think it was the lost Billy Burnette album.

Memphis Slim - Blue Memphis

Lets be honest here, this album probably isn't that hard to find, however it isn't an album that you will probably go out and buy just because you want to hear the Peter Green guitar on it unless you are a mad completist. Even I didn't bother to buy a copy of the album, I just found it on the net and have passed on the link to you.

Before anyone writes to me and says that this album is missing track two, it isn't. For some weird reason track two has been added on to track one (track two is only about 34 seconds in length). That is the way I found the album and sadly that is the way you are going to download it too!

The first half of this album (tracks 1 - 8) are known as the Blue Memphis Suite (which was side one of the vinyl LP).

Now if you read the review on the "further info" link I give you below, you could be forgiven for thinking that this album isn't actually worth listening to. While there are certainly better albums out there, it really is quite listenable, and Peter Green's guitar is fantastic as always.

There are two bonus tracks that exist for this album (Mother Earth & I've Got Soul) that John was kind enough to pass along after I posted this link. So, I've added in a link to the bonus tracks if you want them!

Oh and on a final note, sorry Wil I know I did say I would add this on the blog a week ago!
