The De Luxe Blues Band - Street Car Named De Luxe

I offer this warning to anyone trying to purchase this album on the web - you will probably end up with the wrong album. I ordered mine through an online retailer who sent me the wrong CD. I contacted them and they sent me another copy of the wrong CD! This saga is sadly still ongoing - I'm past wanting my order I just want my money back now. What this means though is if the online retailer can't provide the album, then it is no longer available as far as I can see.

It was several weeks ago that I posted the other De Luxe Blues Band albums and had every intention of posting this one at the same time. The above saga stopped that being possible and I was concerned that I wasn't going to be able to provide you with a link.

However, I did manage to find Street Car Named De Luxe for download after deciding that I probably wouldn't be getting it in CD form any time soon. So courtesy of one of those slightly dodgy Russian sites, here it is!

Quite a good album for The De Luxe Blues Band, perhaps because it was one of their earlier albums. Sadly things started to go downhill a little after this one.

Oh and as far as I can tell I am now only missing Jeremy Spencer In Session (or whatever it is called) to complete my Mac solo album collection. I'm sure I'll find more, but I can't think of any right now.

John Mayall - Notice to Appear

While I was on the topic of Rick Vito I thought I would add this album onto the blog, which see's Rick playing guitar on seven tracks. For details of which tracks, please follow the "further info" link at the bottom of this page.

I noticed that you could buy a new copy of album on Amazon for around $50. Well, as it an awful John Mayall album, it certainly isn't worth that much money so I have added it here for anyone who wants it.

John Mayall has released some very good albums in his 50 years of producing music, but he has also released some shockers. This is probably better than some, but I'm struggling to name one and I have about 50 albums by John Mayall (48 hours to be exact - thats a lot of John Mayall).

Oh, I do like "Hale To The Man Who Lives Alone", so one track out of ten isn't all that bad...

Anyone wanting this album for a blistering Rick Vito solo will also be disappointed because you have to struggle to hear the guitar over the rest of the noise going on (horn section, backing vocals, keyboards and so on).

However, if you like Mayall and don't have this album then you can listen to it before you head off to spend your hard earned $50.

Oh and if anyone has Mayall's "UK Tour 2K" or "Time Capsule" then please send me a copy because I am still searching... [EDIT: Actually no I'm not because someone called Amy came to the blog, saw this request and sent me a copy. I have posted it up on this blog for everyone, regardless of it being irrelevant to Fleetwood Mac.]

Rick Vito - Talk That Talk

Rick Vito is one of my favourite Fleetwood Mac members, he is very talented and an amazing guitar player. He has been quite prolific since leaving Fleetwood Mac, releasing six solo albums besides this one.

This album was released in Europe and strictly speaking isn't hard to find, although it has never seen US release to my knowledge. If you search on Amazon or similar sites you can purchase a copy, however you probably won't find it if you walk into your local music store. You also can not buy this album through Rick's website (where you can buy his other albums).

Three of the tracks on this album were released on the US issued "Rattlesnake Shake" (I Do Believe, Change Is Gonna Come & The Lucky Devil).

Now for my little rant...

Back in October I ordered this CD from a company called MovieMars on the net. A couple of days later I received an email saying that this CD was out of stock and they would be ordering it and would send it ASAP. Maybe a week later they sent another email saying that yes it was still out of stock but they were working on it.

Well Christmas came and went and finally I figured I'd given them enough chance so I emailed them and contacted them through the Amazon site. I received back two identically worded emails (from different people) saying that it was an error in their inventory and they expected it would be sent to me within the week.

A month later, I emailed again, receiving this time a personalised email saying that it was still out of stock but they would email me as soon as it despatched, which they thought would be about a week.

A month later I finally got annoyed enough to ask for my money back and received the response that their ordering system was automated which meant that sometimes they couldn't get albums that were ordered.

I mean how easy would it be for someone to over-ride the automated system and order my damn CD? Obviously very hard. I will NEVER order anything from MovieMars again (and don't say that you haven't been warned).

Oh and I went to write bad feedback at Amazon but as more than 90 days had passed I couldn't.

Anyway, that is my rant done, so I hope you enjoy the album.

Gass - Juju (also released as Gass)

Over at the Ledge today (where many of us Fleetwood Mac fans hang out) someone asked about the album released by the band Gass in 1970. According to Wikipedia, this album was originally released as Juju, but then withdrawn due to a contractual complication between Peter Green and his manager. The album was re-released as Gass without Peter Green's credits on the album cover. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juju_(Gass_album)

Gass was formed by Bobby Tench (who later went on to The Jeff Beck Group). What makes this album somewhat notable is that Peter Green appears on two tracks - Black Velvet and Juju.

Now this album is not particularly listenable, Peter's contribution is limited, and personally I wouldn't bother downloading it. Now how is that for a recommendation?

However I know that some of you might be searching for it although it can be downloaded from a couple of places around the web.

Dave Mason & Jim Capaldi - 40,000 Headmen Tour

I noticed today that this album was available on Amazon for $80. After I stopped laughing I though I'd add a link on the blog.

Yes! So now I have my 10th version of "Feelin' Alright". Oh thats ten versions by Dave Mason. I've also got the version by Joe Cocker, but that's another story.

As I have said many times in this blog Dave Mason has spent his career doing 'best of' and 'live' collections, and after a while it just gets boring.

There are two things that stop me completely throwing this album against the wall in disgust. Firstly it is stored on my computer so to throw it against the wall would mean I have to throw the whole computer. The second thing is the version of "The Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys". The only decent song on the whole damn album! Actually the only redeeming feature of this album is Jim Capaldi.

For those people who have read my rant against Dave Mason before you'll know that I admire his guitar work, think he did a handful of good songs, and think his latest album (26 Letters, 12 Notes) is a great album. For those of you that haven't well now you know.

Be aware that the sound quality of this recording isn't that great for two reasons. The bitrate is only 160kbps (it was like that when I found it) and the sound quality wasn't that great to begin with.

Lindsey Buckingham - Soundtrack Contributions

After my mammoth effort of putting together all of those Stevie tracks, I really couldn't be bothered to do the same for anyone else in Fleetwood Mac. However, there are a few songs that Lindsey Buckingham has contributed to soundtracks that I thought I would put up here if anyone wants them.

Personally I would imagine most Lindsey fans would already have these songs. I didn't until recently simply because I'm not a big Lindsey fan. However, I chased them down, and then figured I should add them here as well.

So, we have the following:

1983 - Holiday Road & Dancing Across the USA from the soundtrack to National Lampoon's Vacation http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/discog.php?pid=644

1985 - Time Bomb Town from the soundtrack to Back to the Future http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/discog.php?pid=230

1994 - On The Wrong Side from the soundtrack to With Honors. http://discog.fleetwoodmac.net/discog.php?pid=665

Eddie Boyd - 7936 South Rhodes

This album from 1968 sees Eddie Boyd team up with Fleetwood Mac (Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Peter Green).

I have to admit that I've only listened to these two Eddie Boyd albums a couple of times, which isn't a reflection on their quality, merely a reflection on me having too many albums. I worked out I had over 700 albums today. Now while that might not be a lot when compared to some people, it is a lot when you consider my musical taste is very limited.

Of the 725 hours of music stored on my computer 185 hours relates to Fleetwood Mac (including solo stuff, etc) and a further 68 hours to Bob Dylan. Like I say, limited musical taste...

Anyway, if you want to learn more about this album (and yes its a good album) then follow the further info link provided below!

Eddie Boyd - Eddie Boyd and His Blues Band Featuring Peter Green

In 1967 John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (Mayall, John McVie, Peter Green and Ansley Dunbar) and others went into the studio with Eddie Boyd and recorded this album.

There is lots of stuff to read about this album, which I'm too lazy to reproduce here (no point in re-inventing the wheel), so please follow the "further info" link below to read about this album.
