Brunning Sunflower Blues Band - Brunning Hall Sunflower Blues Band

The final Brunning Sunflower album was this one in 1971. By this stage the freshness and creativity of the band had kind of run out of steam. Missing on this album was Dave Kelly who had lent his vocals to many Brunning related tracks.

Brunning Sunflower Blues Band - I Wish You Would

By request, here are the two other Brunning Sunflower albums, the first of which being "I Wish You Would". Personally I wish they hadn't. Certainly not as good as the two albums that came before it, or as good as the Tramp albums that contained something of a similar lineup (Bob Brunning, Bob Hall, Jo-Ann Kelly, Dave Kelly). Nevertheless, here it is!

Billy Burnette - Coming Home

Many years ago I walked into Wesley Music in the city (they have since closed down) and found this album. Up until that point I had only heard Billy on the FM albums"Time" and "Behind the Mask". It was the beginning of my obsession with Fleetwood Mac solo music. Up until that point I had only bought albums by Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.

Despite this album being country music (and I would never consider myself to be a big country music fan) I have enjoyed it immensely over the years, and it has opened my eyes/ears to other country-rock music. It is, in my opinion, his best work.

Now I didn't actually know this album was hard to find until I went looking tonight and found that it doesn't seem to be readily available from the major online CD retailers. I'm sure someone will find it and dispute that.

Billy Burnette is one of the most talented FM members, and I can only hope there are many more albums to come from him in the years ahead.

Wanted!

The chances of anyone visiting this blog that actually has this album are virtually none, but here we go anyway!

John (who has contributed a few albums to this blog) mentioned to me that he is still searching for the Bob Brunning related London 22nd Cub Scout Pack album from around 1970.

So given that I'm somewhat in his debt after the copies of the Bob Weston albums he provided, if you have a copy then John may well want to buy it. If you do, then contact me through the blog and I'll pass the details along to John.

Five's Company - The Ballad Of Fred The Pixie

Yesterday I made a comment on the blog that if anyone had "The Ballad of Fred the Pixie" then my FM related collection would be another step closer to being complete. John who yesterday sent me the two Bob Weston albums sent me this one as well (is there anything that John doesn't have in his record collection?).

Hmm...this has to be the weirdest album I have ever heard. I normally like the fun of Brunning's albums (think "I Met This Bird In Playboy", Big Belly Blues, Simple Simon, etc) which seem to be a common theme through Tramp and Brunning Sunflower. However this album is just plain weird.

The songs follow the life of the unknown subject, pretty much conception to death. Some of the songs are actually ok (Break My Heart for example), but in the main the album grates.

Sure, someone will undoubtedly like it. Once again, if you are a completist like John is and I'm trying to be, then you need to have it in your collection. Brunning contributed to much better albums than this.

Bob Weston - Studio Picks

Yes, here is the second album from Bob Weston from 1981, which was sent to me today by John (wetcamelfood) from The Ledge. There must be a story behind his screen name of wetcamelfood. Does anyone know what a camel actually eats? :-) [edit: oh I see, its an anagram of Fleetwood Mac, thanks John.]

Anyway, these albums are very hard to come by - I have seen this album for sale somewhere for $288. Look its hard to find and good and all that but $288?

Personally I think after one listen to both albums that I prefer Nightlight his 1980 release over this album. Bob reminds me of someone but I'm not sure if it is Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch or someone else completely different. It might come to me.

As I have stated before, Bob Weston has a new album supposedly coming out soon, so please support him and buy it when it comes out. Also both Dave Mason and Mick Fleetwood (with Rick Vito) have new albums coming out soon. Fleetwood Mac members may not be as prolific as they once were but they are still going strong. Now come on Stevie when are we getting a new album from you?

Enjoy!

Bob Weston - Nightlight

Today I have reached the summit, found the Holy Grail and won the lottery. Well only in a metaphorical sense. I have in my possession mp3 files to Bob Weston's two studio albums, and hence I am here to share them with you.

Today I popped home from work to check the mail to see if my Brunning Sunflower albums had arrived. They hadn't but while I was home I checked my email. There was a message from John (wetcamelfood) from the Ledge sending me the mp3 files for these two albums.

I'm grateful, I'm amazed and I'm very thankful to him for sending me these. I have to honestly say that I'd just about given up ever hearing these albums. If you feel the same then please download them.

Bob Weston does have a new CD coming soon, so please support him and buy the album when it comes out. Should these ever see a CD release, they are probably not going to sell that well (and I'm almost sure they didn't the first time) but I'll be up the front of the queue to buy my copies (should my wife let me spend the money of course).

So my search is almost over to complete my FM solo collection. If anyone has The Ballad of Fred the Pixie album then we'd be even closer. ;-) [edit: Thanks John (wetcamelfood) for sending this one too]

So what do I think of this album? Well I'd be lying if I said it sounded fresh and as relevant today as it did in 1980. Then again I could say that about a lot of music. What I can say (and I've only had one listen) is that they are far better albums than the music that is getting released these days.

Brunning Sunflower Blues Band - Bullen Street Blues

Running this blog I do get a few requests for albums, which I often don't have, can't find or which don't fall into the category of "Hard to Find". The most commonly requested album is "Bullen Street Blues" by Brunning Sunflower. I didn't have it either, but finally found a copy and have added it on here for you.

This was the first Brunning Sunflower album released in either 1968 or 1969 depending on who you believe. Reliable data on this seems to be hard to come by. I thought it was 1968 but www.fleetwoodmac.net lists it as 1969. Either way it doesn't really matter.

Danny Kirwan - Hello There Big Boy

As I have said elsewhere this album was sent to me by Wil a guy who happened to drop by this blog and notice that I didn't have these albums up here. Thanks Wil!

This was the last album by Danny Kirwan, his third overall, which was released in 1979. Danny didn't even play guitar on here, he was not really in a fit mental state to be doing so, or even releasing an album. Ex-Mac guitarist Bob Weston provides some guitar on here.

All in all its not a bad album, especially when you have waited so long to hear it!

It has to be said that there probably isn't a sadder case in Fleetwood Mac history. Poor Danny, so young, so much talent, all gone. On a final note, Danny now lives in a shelter for homeless men and drinks away what royalties he gets.

Danny Kirwan - Midnight In San Juan

A guy by the name of Wil stopped by the blog and downloaded a couple of things. He also sent me this album and also Hello There Big Boy which I have also added. Thank you Wil, you are legend!

This album was released by Danny in 1976, his second solo album, I'd like to tell you something about it, but I am listening to it as I post! Regardless of which this is a must have album for the early FM fan.

Billy Burnette - Try Me

After recording an album with Mick Fleetwood's Zoo, Billy released Try Me, his sixth solo album in 1985. Mick is credited with providing at least some of the drums on this album and Christine McVie is credited with providing background vocals. It was almost destined to be that Billy would join Fleetwood Mac, although it was still to be two years in the future.

Bonus Track on this album is called "Way Down".

Billy Burnette - Gimme You

1981 saw Billy release this album, his fifth overall.

Bonus track on this disc is "Running Away With Me"

Billy Burnette - Billy Burnette (1980)

Yes it was like Christmas yet again as another three Billy Burnette CDs arrived in the mail. I feel like a kid in a candy store! Amazing, amazing, amazing!

This is the third self titled release from Billy Burnette, and his fourth solo album overall. By this album he is starting to sound like Billy from the Fleetwood Mac years. If you have heard the earlier albums and had any doubts, by this stage you surely won't (assuming you are a Billy fan of course).

Great stuff, enjoy!
