Dave Walker's contribution to Fleetwood Mac was only two songs, "The Derelict" and "(I'm A) Roadrunner". Of these, he only wrote "The Derelict". In terms of lack of contribution, only Dave Mason matches Dave, but at least he wrote both of his songs. Bob Brunning may have only been around for a few weeks, but at least he wrote a couple of books about the Mac.
Thing about Dave though is that he is seriously the most under-rated Mac member in its 40+ year history.
Dave came from Savoy Brown which was another big rockin' blues band of the era. He left to join Fleetwood Mac who were looking for a front-man, and by all accounts he was very good at that. He was fired because he wasn't fitting in, and spending most of his time in the pub. Only John McVie didn't want him to go because he was a drinking buddy.
If you read any interviews with Dave, he feels that he was lured to Fleetwood Mac under false pretences, what they told him they wanted and what they actually did want were two different things. He might not have fitted in with the Mac, but surely they knew what kind of artist he was before he joined. Have a listen to this album and you'll see why they must have known.
Lion's Share (1973) was Savoy Brown's last album with Dave (well at least until he re-joined in the '90s). The first was Street Corner Talking in 1971, then Hellbound Train in 1972.
